Steven's Pass
Steven’s Pass
Date : June 11th 2008
Day 6
Miles: 75
Destination: Wenatchee, WA
Our team departed from Skykomish for Wenatchee, Washington this morning at 6:30 and it began with a strenuous ascent upward toward Steven’s Pass. The team climbed the mountain in good time and arrived at a small Bavarian-styled town called Leavenworth for lunch. The second day of riding started to take its toll on some of the riders as soreness began setting in; sitting in the saddle for six hours a day can do that to a person. Hopefully the soreness will fade soon and our rear ends will become accustom to life in the saddle.
After a brief lunch we hit the road again in our pace-lines of four and rode to Wenatchee.
We arrived at our lodging for the night that was in a local community center. The friendship visit was by far the highlight of the night. We pulled up to Rotary Park to find that there were twice as many community members there than previously thought. Nearly everyone was engaged in great conversations and many were playing soccer or wiffle ball. The food was plentiful and all of us had seconds and maybe even thirds. We can not thank our sponsor, Sarah Fitzgerald, Gary the chef and his wife for their generosity and hospitality. After a heartwarming visit we drove back to our lodging and got ready for our next big day.
