A cook off feast

Cook off Feast
Date : June 20th 2008
Day: 15
Miles: 76
Destination: Philipsburg, MT

The TransAm team racked up a record number of flat tires today, with one pace line accruing six. That beats our previous record of five (set on our ride into Missoula two days ago). Despite the challenges on the road all cyclists made it safely to Phillipsburg and were treated to quite the ride – rolling mountains, rushing rivers, and most importantly - no big climbs! Even Mother Nature held out and surprised us to a dry ride despite a 60% chance of rain.

We made it to lodging around 1:30pm this afternoon and had the afternoon to explore Phillipsburg. I went out with some of the guys for coffee. I had a cup of tea and an oatmeal raisin cookie – it really hit the spot. We also ventured to Doe Brothers, the local ice cream/soda parlor (really every town ought to have one), where lots of the guys hunkered down for some ice cream and wifi. Actually we’re about to leave for a second round now, though I’m surprised any of us can eat after the dinner that Shawn Christensen and members of the Phillipsburg Rotary Club provided for the team. We attended their BBQ cook-off tonight at a local park and were treated to more ribs, brisket, and pulled pork that we could handle. All the dishes were winners in my book.

Tomorrow’s ride brings us to Butte, Montana. I’m off to Doe Brothers to meet the team for ice cream. I need my strength for tomorrow!
