A day of wind
A Day of Wind
Date: June 22nd 2009
Day 17
Miles: 105
Destination: Bozeman, MT
We started off the morning nice and early with a 5:00 wake up from the YMCA in Butte, and to my surprise there were already members of the Y exercising. We got the bags packed up quick, and we were able to enjoy the usual “dancing for clothes” in the circle. Once we warmed up, we enjoyed a nice climb with a beautiful view, and quite a nice down hill afterward. All good things, however, must come to an end.
After we finished our coast down hill we were greeted by a wonderful 15 mph headwind with 20 mph gusts, which made riding on a slight up hill seam like climbing Mt. Everest. It was just another challenge to see what we’re all made of. We made it though, and showed ourselves what all of our hard work and good attitudes are good for. For the last 40 miles we had a tail wind and even more beautiful scenery. When we arrived at our destination of Eagle Mount, a therapeutic rehabilitation center, we were all happy to see that 105 miles turned into 108, but who’s counting?
After about 6 of us rushed to a much needed bike shop run, we returned to Eagle Mount where we were welcomed with a ton of great food, and a very inspirational speech from an expert hand cyclist named Richard. We were even offered a chance to see what we were made of on the hand cycling bikes, and trust me; it’s harder on your arms than it looks.
After dinner provided by Michelle Snowberger and friends it was time for bed for pretty much everyone, since we had a long day of cycling and plenty of mervings( man servings ). It was definitely a sight to see everyone passed out from watching a movie, but it shows you how hard we all work to spread the word of Push America every day.
