A New TransAm Tradition
A New TransAm Tradition
Date : June 13th 2009
Day 7
Miles: 70
Destination: Coulee City, WA
About 15 miles outside of Wenatchee, we were surprised to find that we weren’t quite done with our climbing yet. Everybody took their time climbing for almost an hour up a canyon. From the top, you could see the entire canyon which provided us great pictures as a testament to our hard work. At about 50 miles, we cruised down a big hill into a valley area where we had a Crew Chief “2 Meat, 1 Cheese” lunch. Unfortunately, we had to climb right back out of the canyon with a full stomach. Luckily, we were close enough to Coulee city.
Exhausted after a tough ride, most of us took a quick afternoon nap at Coulee City High School before dinner. Tonight, we had our first experience of many with the Cattlewomen’s Association. They made us some great barbequed beef sandwiches cooked in the classic Dutch Over style. After that meal, we were certainly excited for the many Cattlewomen’s meals to come.
After dinner, the team headed to the local natural creation, The Dry Falls. When they carried water, the Dry Falls were larger than Niagara Falls. Today, they form giant canyons and a great scene for pictures. It was one of many of the amazing things we saw in Washington.
Finally, we headed to Big Wally’s Ice Cream for what has become a TransAmerica tradition. Tonight, we had our first pre-century ice cream. At Wally’s, they made single scoops as big as double scoops and double scoops as big as triples. Filled with great ice cream, we crashed in sugar comas before 100 miles into Spokane. We hope that pre-century ice cream and Big Wally’s will become TransAm tradition for years to come.
