WHEELS IN THEIR SHOES
During the last week of September, the brothers of Alpha Kappa (University of Michigan) held a disability awareness event on campus in Ann Arbor, Michigan. The brothers called the event “Wheels in Their Shoes” and it consisted of the chapter completing a 5k course around campus using wheelchairs. Its purpose was to spread awareness about people with disabilities, specifically those who use wheelchairs to get around campus and some of the difficulties they may face.

Alan Willar, who serves as the chapter’s Push America chairman said, “It was a good awareness event because as we all struggled to complete the up hill course, it showed us and those watching how tough it is to maneuver around parts of campus in a wheelchair.”

As the men wheeled around campus they would stop to speak with passing students, teachers and community members to share their experience with them. They would also pass out flyers and information about Push America and how men of Pi Kappa Phi are making an impact in the lives of people with disabilities all across the country.

The men were even able to raise nearly $900 from the event for Push America. “Everyone loved taking part in the event. We are planning on making this an annual event and look forward to making the next one even better” said Willar.

Push America would like to thank the men of the Alpha Kappa chapter for their continued dedication and support of Push America and people with disabilities. If you would like to share your chapter's events with Push America, please contact Andrew Matznick, director of chapter services, at amatznick@pushamerica.org or (704) 504-2400 ext. 117.
